Summer 2026

Dear FTYCMA Members,

It is both an honor and a privilege to serve as your president. Nearly six decades after our founding, this organization feels alive with energy — new faces, fresh conversations, and a shared sense that our best work is still ahead of us. The launch of our new website is just one visible sign of that momentum, but the spirit behind it runs much deeper. This is a community on the move, and it is a privilege to serve as your president during this chapter.

One of our priorities this year is to grow the programming available to our members beyond the traditional calendar. In summer 2025, we launched virtual professional development opportunities designed to keep our community connected and learning. We are excited to increase those offerings this year.  Whether you are looking to sharpen pedagogical skills, explore new curriculum approaches, or simply stay engaged with colleagues who understand the unique landscape of two-year college mathematics, these sessions will offer something meaningful — and accessible — for everyone.

Our annual Fall Retreat remains our cornerstone event and one of the most rewarding gatherings in Florida mathematics education. It is a space where experienced instructors and newer colleagues come together as equals, sharing what works, wrestling with what doesn’t, and leaving with fresh ideas and renewed motivation. We are looking forward to enhancing that event with a preconference workshop centered around a teaching and learning theme.  We hope you will mark your calendar and plan to join us.

I am also excited to deepen our collaboration with the Florida Section of the Mathematical Association of America. The joint meeting of FL-MAA and FTYCMA has long been a highlight of our year, and I see tremendous potential in expanding that partnership further. By working alongside FL-MAA, we can bring broader resources and perspectives to bear on the teaching excellence that defines our mission.

FTYCMA exists because of you. The work you do each day — mentoring students, refining your courses, and advocating for the value of two-year college mathematics — is what gives this organization its purpose. I am committed to making sure FTYCMA gives back to you in equal measure: through programming that fits your life, partnerships that amplify your voice, and a community that supports your growth.

I look forward to seeing many of you throughout the year — online this summer, in person at the Fall Retreat, and again at our joint meeting with FL-MAA. This is your organization, and together we will make it stronger.

Warmly,

Megan Cavanah, EdD

President, FTYCMA
